Swiss Chard. Some winters it succeeds and others it fails. This year was a good year for many veggies including chard. When harvesting, use your kitchen knife and trim the plants to about 4" from the soil level. This allows the plants to continue growing from the center. If you cut too low, you kill the "heart" of the plant. This is "bright lights" variety that comes in a few colors. As you see, mine are growing very happily in pots with drip irrigation. Potting soil is recycled from a previous bean crop and amended with 10-10-10 fertilizer monthly. Drip irrigation runs once daily in the early morning. This year, no disease and a bumper crop in several pots.
