Roselle (and cranberry hibiscus) Seed Saving: How to


Snip off the flower heads when the seed casing starts to dry and is brown. Don't wait too long or the seed pods will burst open. Allow pods to dry. We just put ours in a bucket indoors and forgot about them for a couple of weeks.



Take the dried pods and place them in a gallon freezer zip bag. Press as much air out as you can and zip closed.

Using a rolling pin, break up the dried pods to release the seeds. This took us about 3 minutes.



Shake bag so seeds fall to bottom. Unzip and removed dried pod matter and compost. Pour into a bowl. Take outside and patiently blow over the seeds to remove small pieces of dried pod. You might lose a few seeds but most will stay in the bowl.
