Three inner parts of of the scion and stock must line up on both parts of the grafted material: xylem, phloem, cambium. Cambium contact is extremely important.
  • scion (new part, shoot)
  • stock (root)
Best time to graft is February to May.

Grafted trees bear fruit faster; scion remembers age of mother plant.

Grafting is surgery. Keep tools clean: Budding/grafting tape, knife, pruners.

Air Layering
Air layer in spring branch size of thumb, Scratch part exposed to soil, USE rooting hormone, sphagnum moss, aluminum foil, check starting 8 weeks, no more 1.25 inch diameter

















Pruning
Prune in SPRING.
Prune so sunlight hits all leaves.
Can use candle wax over cuts.
