Edible: Figs.

Searching for the best figs for our area is yet another challenge. Below are MY choices that tolerate our zone 9/10 summers AND produce with at least 100 chill hours. There are lots to choose from so remember to the check chill hours (100-150 where I live) and zone (9-10) here: https://www.justfruitsandexotics.com/JFE/product-category/fruit-trees/fig/fig-varieties-ficus-carica/
I have ordered from them and while they are expensive and slow to ship, the plant was in PERFECT condition.

LSU Gold: This cultivar is a Louisiana State University release that produces a large, yellow fig with pink-to-red pulp. Fruit of LSU Gold should be picked as soon as it is mature since this fruit has an open eye and fruit spoilage may occur. Fruit ripening is July through August. Fruit is of good quality for eating fresh and for preserving. Ordered from STARK but I might not actually plant this.

LSU Purple: Nematode Resistant!  Another release from the LSU Agriculture Center fig program. LSU Purple is a medium size fig with purple to burgundy skin and light red flesh. This one we have bto label as bullet proof. It is  one of the few fig tree that is resistant to fruit rot, nematodes and fig rust. Excellent flavor ones the tree has gained some age. Probably one of the best varieties for the humid south. Dense grower that looks good in the landscape. Closed eye One of the longest ripening figs we grow. Crop ripens in late June, crops again in July through September. Zones 8B-10. Saw these at ECHO but they were covered with rust so I did not purchase. Ordered from BOB.

Texas Blue Giant Fig: Extra large fig with purple skin and amber flesh, very sweet. Ever-bearing habit. 100 hours below 45°F. Zones 6-10. Ordered from BOB.

Texas Everbearing Fig: Medium to very large, mahogany to purple exterior color. Bright amber pulp. High quality, excellent flavor. Decent breba crop followed by heavy summer crop. Produces until frost. Very hardy, will resprout from the base if frozen and produce on first season's growth. Good for fresh use, dried or preserves. 100 or fewer hours below 45°F. Zones 6-11. Ordered from BOB.
