Giant Kohlrabi

Yes there is a crack on the side... Let's see the beauty instead. Special seeds were purchased to make this giant kohlrabi.

This will be peeled of its thick outer skin, then quartered and sliced thin, coated with olive oil and sea salt, finally to be roasted until charred in the oven or on the grill. Note QUARTER for scale. These are HUGE.

This cabbage crop grows VERY well here. Sometimes it requires a second sowing (planting of seeds) when it is unseasonably hot and humid and it never germinates. Cabbages love the cool weather (under 75 degrees in my opinion).

Remember to not plant seeds too deep. Two to three times the diameter of the seed will do it. Too deep and the seedlings can never reach the surface.
