Papaya: huge harvests when you beat the fruit fly

The most common question about papaya is: How do I prevent fruit fly maggots inside my papaya?

Here are answers:
  1. Use Conserve, a spinosad, to spray the fruit. Click here to find/buy it on Amazon.
  2. Bag the fruit so the fly cannot access the fruit. Replace paper bag as fruit grows or weather destroys.
  3. Harvest the fruit while still green with just a blush. This option works for us MOST of the time but not always. If the damage is minimal, use a vegetable peeler to remove anything that looks funny.
  4. Destroy all dropped fruit so that the fly does not continue to reproduce in your garden.
