With all the recent fogs in my area, I felt the need to offer some information about what it does in our edible gardens. Specifically: Downy Mildew on Cucurbits (cucumbers, melons, pumpkins, squash).

Click here to download more information on Downy Mildew.

What do we do? We do not grow squash or melons at all anymore. Instead, use resistant/tolerant varieties such as Seminole Pumpkins, Jamaican Gherkin, and Pickling Melon. On top of that we spray with Garden Friendly Fungicide and Copper to HELP battle both Powdery Mildew and Downy Mildew. Please note that sprays are a mainly a preventative, not so much a treatment after the problem.

Below is Powdery Mildew. It looks like someone shook baby powder over the leaves.
