After having attended the Butterfly Conference this past weekend with some of our 4-H youth, I decided to do some investigating of butterfly plants for edible gardeners. Here are my results:
Butterfly host plants (plants caterpillars like to EAT): Parsley, Dill, Fennel, Peas, Sunflowers, Citrus, Passon vine, Blueberries, Fruit trees, PawPaw, carrot, cabbage family.
Butterfly nectar sources (flowering plants butterflies like): Blackberry, cherry, rotting fruit, legumes, papaya, chaya, oregano, mint, radish, thyme, garlic chives, catnip.
