Grow your own food class at Heartland Gardens Part 12

This week we had a cooking demonstration, well not exactly cooking. It was raw food preparation and cooking your harvest.

We made a desert pie using nuts and dates for the crust, apples, and mangoes with a little endive on top. The second recipe was using the mustard greens from our garden, mushrooms drizzled with a homemade sesame dressing toped with sprouts. The third was banana/squash gazpacho toped with diced avocado and tomato. Sounds strange but was very tasty. The last recipe was one Andria called her “pasta”. It was made with zucchini sliced into ribbons toped with a pesto made from tomatoes, kale, shallots, sage, basil and garlic, another tasty dish.

A good demonstration of how to use fresh foods, without fats and only honey for sugar, the recipes were very tasty.
