Plant and Tree Care Following a Hurricane

I received this from Riverland...

Riverland Nursery Newsletter
September 2017

Greetings!

We hope you and your loved ones made it through hurricane Irma safely. The nursery sustained a lot of damage to the trees in our gardens. Fortunately, the building is intact and most of our plant material is thriving despite the storm. Pictures of the damage can be seen on our Riverland Facebook Page . In recent days we have been very busy reorganizing and making the nursery better than ever (with a little less shade). Our number of staff may be small but we are making a fierce effort.

We have cancelled the Tropical Fruit Tree and Container Gardening classes that were scheduled for the next two Saturdays. We will reschedule these classes at a later date.

We have scheduled a class on Plant and Tree Care Following a Hurricane on Saturday, September 30th at 10 a.m. You can register for the class here.

Right now you can help your plants by ensuring that they are watered regularly to compensate for the days that are hot and dry. Also, the rain has leeched our soil of nutrients and it is important to fertilize your plants with a controlled release fertilizer such as Nurserymen't SureGro to help them recover from the winds and flooding. If you have trees or shrubs with exposed roots that you want to save, you should cover the roots with additional soil or mulch.

Sincerely,

Mayer Berg
