Jujubee Fruit in late January to early February

This has been our first experience with Jujubee, variety Green Thornless. It is a weeping tree and even though it says thornless, it has thorns. A sucker from the root stock proved to me that 1/4 inch thorns were much better than 1/2 inch thorns though. The fruit started to fall from the tree when they were about a small egg size. The winds we had a few weeks ago damaged the trees and snapped branches so many were harvested before they reached maturity. All tasted good. Even my 4-H youth liked them. Crunchy, apple-pear with a slight celery flavor. Large pit in the center that makes it hard to cut and eat so these are best eaten out-of-hand. They store for a short while in the refrigerator. The skins can start to dry and wither but the flesh is still good. Flavor changes ever so slightly when they dry.
