Whitefly in the garden.
Photo above is of TINY, tiny, white, flies. If you brush by a plant and it has dandruff, YOU HAVE WHITE FLY.
" " quotes by Gene McAvoy (5-county UF/IFAS veggie agent):
"Around Immokalee, whitefly numbers are building and adults are moving around. Growers have reported control issues in some areas but sampling has revealed no Q-biotype to date. Whitefly nymphs are building in several older crops. High whitefly numbers have been reported in some eggplant as well as silverleaf in some zucchini."
"Soap disrupts the integrity of an insects cuticle causing desiccation. Soaps are best on small soft bodied insects like aphids and whiteflies."
Karen's note: This year, my green beans were infested with whitefly. Look for ant populations that are caring for whitefly. Ants want their poop which is called honeydew. DAWN® is too strong... Spray of 1-2 tablespoons of cheap liquid dish soap mixed to a gallon of water. Spray under the leaves as needed.
