Tomatoes: Photos of Tomato Yellow Leaf Curl Virus (TYLCV)

These plants were growing in Immokalee. The vector/transmitter is whitefly, a sucking insect. Whitefly looks like dandruff when the plant is touched/moved. They are tiny and lay eggs on the under side of leaves.

TYLCV usually results in stunted plants that no longer set fruit (no longer create more fruit). If you develop this in your garden, remove the plants and put them in the TRASH, not curbside, not in your compost. Allow time for all current live whitefly to finish their life cycle and die (about 6 weeks from start to finish) before planting tomatoes again.
